Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Prabowo Subianto has emphasized the importance of a strategic ASEAN-United States partnership to realize a peaceful, open, and prosperous Indo-Pacific.
He made the remarks during the 13th ASEAN-US Summit at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), Malaysia, on Sunday.
“The United States has long been, and must continue to be, a partner in growth and peace in the Indo-Pacific. As a growth partner, US engagement has helped build a stronger, more connected ASEAN,” Prabowo said, according to the Presidential Secretariat statement.
The President stressed that the partnership with the US has strengthened ASEAN’s integration and competitiveness.
According to Prabowo, ASEAN’s economic success reflects growth driven by openness.
“With a strong US partnership, ASEAN has become the world’s fifth-largest economy, creating over 625,000 American jobs through annual exports worth US$122 billion,” he added.
In the context of dynamic geopolitics, Prabowo highlighted the need for an Indo-Pacific that is open, predictable, and inclusive for all nations.
He also underscored the international community’s moral responsibility in addressing humanitarian crises in Palestine.
“Indonesia appreciates the outcomes of the Sharm El Sheikh Summit for Peace and your leadership, Mr. President (Donald Trump), in advancing a credible roadmap toward lasting peace,” Prabowo said.
Closing his remarks, Prabowo reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to supporting aid and reconstruction efforts in Gaza, including participation in multinational stabilization missions.
He added that Indonesia is ready to deploy peacekeeping forces where protection and enforcement are needed.
Prabowo stated that the US and ASEAN should choose to stand on the right side of history and be partners for peace, building sustainable cooperation and strengthening partnerships that would bring tangible benefits to their peoples and the world
